My ISP, Bellsouth, has recently turned off outbound SMTP. I have been running Exchange 2003 for approximately 1 year without any problems. I have tried using your setup guide with regard to changing ports. However, your instructions are a bit confusing.

Here is my current setup:

I have a Win2K domain with Exchange 2003
Internet DNS with zones created at zoneedit.com
I changed the smtp server at zoneedit to smtp.changeip.com to handle mail from my domain.

Opened port 5072 on my firewall
Forwarded 5072 from my external NIC to my internal NIC using NAT so my server can be contacted.

Added my server to the Backup SMTP records on your site.
Changed the outbound port in Exchange to 5072
Added smarthost smtp.changeip.com

And.....
I am still having problems with the service. Can you please post detailed information on how this works because a lot of people will be moving to dsmtp with ISPs blocking 25.

Hello,

We offer 2 types of email service. The backup smtp / dynamic smtp is ONLY used when port 25 into your machine is blocked. You set us as the MX records, we then use the smarthost setting to find your server to forward all mail to. You can choose any incoming port to deliver to your server with.

Standard POP3 mailboxes are what you want if you are using us to relay mail because port 25 ounbound is blocked. You then tell your exchange server we are the smarthost on port 5072 and all mail will then flow out of our system to the destination. You will need to setup at least a single pop3 mailbox so that you can have quotas established for relaying mail - also this userID/email and password is used for the SMTP AUTH you will need on our systems.

Does that help? I think you just need to delete the backup domain you added and add it as a primary domain with a mailbox... then change the MX records back to your machine so you still get mail on port 25 on your machine... if that's not blocked too :)
