We've got a free ddns account with you. Two queries about it.

1. We've got a cron job automatically updating the ddns using wget. This seems to be working fine, as seen in https://www.changeip.com/Reports/DDNSUpdates.asp
by logging into "My Account". But the "Affected" column, for the last few updates, has shown
D:0 R:0 S:3
tho for earlier ones it was
D:1 R:3 S:3
and "Result" is success in both cases.

Even when I update (for testing) from another ip, it shows D:0 R:0 S:3 and the update is not reflected in your nameservers. Is this due to some sort of rate limiting or something like that? Is the update rate limited? Currently we have set it for hourly updates.

2. Your pricing page http://www.changeip.com/Pricing.asp is slightly ambiguous - does the "7-day free" apply for the free ddns domains also or do you provide free ddns on the free ddns domains indefinitely?

Yours,
Hari

Please do not blindly send updates - check the external IP and if it has changed then send an update. If you send an update with the IP that's currently on the record then you see R:0 - because no records were updated. It is okay to see this, it is just best to not abuse the system unless your IP has actually changed. There is less overhead to the http://ip.ChangeIP.com/ script than there is with the update script.

The 7 day free period is given for the paid domains, the subdomain services are always free forever.

well in the case of free dns.. yes free forever until they decide to sell the domain like they did mine.. then you will get 7 days notice and the option to outbid the person for in my domains case just under 2000 dollars Very Happy
