It looks like the US Locationfree Base station will be stuck limited option of 4 registered devices. In EU LF-PK1 sets ship with newer firmware 3.0 that allows up to 8 devices to be registered to one base. Japan also released an upgrade to their existing PK1 units to be upgraded. I called a few times to the LF Customer Service and they told me that this FW (firmware) upgrade will not be offered to the US customers. Great, I thought
So, I was thinking if there is any way to upgrade it using the Japanese one. I do not really care that the menus of the web browser configuration will be in Japanese, because I know them inside out. The problem is when one wants to upgrade the FW, it redirects you to the US website, so my question is is there any way to get it redirected to the JP site? Anybody tried or knows how to? I would appreciate your thoughts.
The JP site that offers the upgrade is here.
Thanks! |

Try changing your language and location code in your browser. If your ID is EN-US for example it may send you to the English version in the US. It may also use your IP address so you may need to proxy off a server in Japan.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for your input. The thing here is the US Locationfree Base contains the information where to direct the user for the updates, and unfortunately it is embedded in the firmware. I am still trying to figure out how to bypass that. |

I see. Well, if you know the code is what you want you can do some tricks with DNS or a proxy server. For example, if the code your device tries to download is at:
www.host.com/download/software.bin
create a file on your web server (in can be on your local computer) under /download/software.bin and make your DNS server authoritative for www.host.com and point it to your web server. You may need a few support files if it hits anything else but you can look in your logs to see what it needs. It may be more difficult if it uses SSL and it checks certificates, though.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for your reply again. Unfortunately what you explained is not one of my expertese areas. So I am not sure how to exactly do that. I just remember that on the Upgrade area in the Base Station settings, when one clicks Next button to upgrade - I was able to look up the properties of that button and it indicated the US website/server to go to. I also know that it is pretty much the same server that is used for JP and EU, just a matter of US, JP in the address. I will have to look into that again and write it out here. I am not sure if I am making sense....sorry about it.
