After my (changeip) account was deleted by mistake and then rebuilt. I no longer can send mail to the AOL domain. All mail is first delayed then several days latter comes back with the message:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Raja10@aol.com on 4/25/2003 12:44 PM
Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or contact your administrator.
<server.shelties.com #4.4.7>

Any Idea?

Thanks David

PS have had no other problems and all other mail is fine!

I believe this is an issue with the recent AOL changes to their spam blocking policy. I've been hearing more complaints of this as of the past 2 weeks. They no longer allow many dynamic ip / broadband customers to deliver email to their servers directly. This is supposed to cut down on spam - in my mind it just causes more problems.

If you use our email services you can get around this issue. We host our mail servers on dedicated tier 1 connections and do not have an IP that is listed in the RBL lists. We deliver thousands of emails to AOL each day with no problems.

Thanks,
Sam

Thank You Sam,

Will Dynamic SMTP fix this problem?

Or does outgoing mail not go through your mail server, so I would have to use a mail box so the record shows it comes from your mail server?

Dynamic SMTP is for mail coming to you, inbound mail.

Our standard POP3 / SMTP product will work for this. Once you setup some space and add a mailbox you can then relay using our servers. Your SMTP server would just use SMTP AUTH to login and deliver the AOL mail to us. We then turn around and forward it on to AOL. The headers will still show the complete path - but since we are delivering the mail they will accept it.

If you only want to deliver AOL mail to us you would need to setup something custom on your mail server. Some servers have built in options that allow specific domains to be relayed elsewhere, otherwise you can just enter an entry in the mail servers 'hosts' file for the AOL mail servers and point them to our IP address. This way anytime your mail server looks up AOL.com MX records it will find the static entry and forward to us. Does that make sense?

Thanks,
Sam

Yes it does Sam it is just about as I expected.

I have contacted AOL as I also am a paying customer of AOL and in fact have a keyword campaign that they are charging me for and now they won't except mail from me!

That kind of ticks me off!!

Anyway I have contacted AOL and they say they see no problem but acknowledged that my mail is not being excepted so they say they will fix it within 48hrs.

We will see!!

I will post they out come when I see if they really fix it!

Thanks for your help,

David Surprised

OK AOL called me and said that all Dynamic IP's from Road Runner are blocked from sending mail to AOL and any other company Time warner ownes.

So I called Road Runner talked to tech support.
The guy I talked to was great after some talk (RR knows i have a server they scan it all the time and try to exploit it) the guy says yes he knows of this problem but not really a problem just bounce your mail of an SMTP server that will except mail relay.
He said just use thers if i want a gave me the address.
Not to sure if I like this as allows RR to moniter my mail a little to much even he said more then 50 or so a day they will flag you as a spammer. Better would be to use changeip for mail forward.

My solution was to just change my exchange server to try to send mail first time by normal internet. if it fails use the RR SMTP server as a backup. This leaves all incomming mail running as normal and just alows for a backup outgoing mail server. Mybe a good thing even if AOL was not your problem.

Thanks,
David

ok guys...here's the news, AOL has lifted their home email server user blocks. The only you can get your home mail server blocked is if you, or your isp do not have rDNS configured in their DHCP server.

To check if you are using rDNS, go to one or both of these sites:

Hey guys, I too cannot send to aol addresses. My Exchange 2003 server says that my message has been "delayed" from sending to an aol.com address. The recipient does not receive my messages.

The solution I read is to either contact AOL (which is a task in itself) and have your server IP taken off the spam blocking list or change the DNS settings on the exchange server or become a changeip.com customer and relay all aol messages to changeip.com servers.

Is there anything else I can do? I want to cover all my bases in case these two solutions don't work for me.

Thanks,
ejlpar

Ed, I tried the sites you gave but what am I suppose to see? I tried to go to the first one (www.shalercom.net...) and I was taken to shalercom.net but what next?

Thanks,
Lito
