No matter what I do, this is all i get in my homingbeacon log:

40012 - 10/25/2003 11:13:57 AM - Info - Attempting to get IP Detectors List.

40012 - 10/25/2003 11:13:57 AM - Info - Failed to get the IP Detectors Listing.
40012 - 10/25/2003 11:13:57 AM - Info - Cleanup.
40012 - 10/25/2003 11:13:57 AM - ERROR - HTTP:-2146697208 The download of the specified resource has failed.
____ Snip _____
I cant get it to update the detector listing. I tried suggesting "http://ip.changeip.com/ip.asp" and got the same result. I completely uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and got the same thing, tried deleting the configuration .xml file, same thing. I am not behind any firewall, just have a linksys router on my cablemodem. Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

Hello,
I wonder if this is because of IE explorer security settings? Are you runnings Win2k or Win2003? Can you try changing your IE security settings lower for untrusted sites and see what happens? It's possible because there might be cookies also trying to get placed. The HomingBeacon uses the XMLHTTP object within MSXML - therefore it uses any IE settings you have setup. If that fixes it, then you can probably add ChangeIP.com as a trusted site and change the settings back to the way they were at it might work. Let me know status.
Thx, |

| Thanks for the response. I am running WinXP Pro, the security settings are set to the default of "Medium", and cookies are enabled. I tried setting the security to "Low" just for giggles, but got the same result. |

Hmm...
Taking a look at the above logs more closely, it looks like it tried and errored out within the same second of time. I am wondering if there is an error working with XMLHTTP for some reason.
Can you download MSXML4 for your machine and install ? This would be found on the microsoft site. This might fix the issue - let me know the outcome. If that doesn't work, email me at Support@ChangeIP.com with the IP address your machine was coming from, and some more log snips - and we will see if your machine is even talking to ours at all.

Thanks for all your help, I found out what the problem was.
I found that I was having a problem as well using the Windows Update site (Got a wierd error code). After looking into that problem and finding that the problem was that my browser was configured with no languages in internet options, I added english(us), and Windows Update worked. I tried The Homing Beacon again after this fix, and it also worked. |

Interesting ... well, thanks for the research. I'm sure some day someone will have that same problem and hopefully look here to the answer.
