This router should work with our system.

The server name will be: http://www.changeip.com
The username and password would be that of your login on our site.
The hostname can either be a fully qualified domain name that is located within your account - which will only update that single hostname, or you can enter either a *1 or -1 to update the entire set 1. We had a customer yesterday that was stating the *1 was not accepted in the DLink routers - therefore we added -1 and I believe that works as well.

sam,
I have a dlink router (di604) When I try *1 or -1 it dosen't update anything. Although if I enter a hostname it updates without any problem. Any Ideas on this problem?

Take a look at the new report that we have put up online - check to see if we are getting any updates from you using *1 or -1.

here is the link:

I see many updates looks like it flooded :( Currently with *1 I don't see anything. Is there a format where I could enter "sub.domain.us;another.domain.us;ect" ? It dosen't show any hits with *1 or -1 dose when the hostname is defined. However when it dose update it keeps updating, I show 40+ times in 2 minutes. After a few times is says 4/4/2003 3:40:33 PM Locked Out:24/13/30mins

Let me track down the logs for those updates that are not posting. Most likely the update script is not getting to the audit point before it errors out - possibly because of the *1 entry. This does work with the HomingBeacon and other clients, but for some reason the hardware routers do not like certain entries. I will dig into this more and get back to you shortly.

sam,

Would it be possible to have things setup, where. When one dns is updated that is part of the group 1 all dns's are updatedd to that address. Where if I updated irc.winbolo.us sence the route (winbolo.us) is also part of the 1 group they both get updated.

Our dynamic dns update script works both ways. If you send the &set=1 command in the parameter string you can update everything that has Set #1 checked. You can also send a &hostname=*1 or &hostname=-1 and everything in set #1 will be updated. If you send a &hostname=host.example.org string then only that single hostname will be updated.

Which client are you using to update and I'll help you get it configured right?

I'm the one trying to use the dlink router (di-604) where when I use -1 and *1 it says invalid hostname and dosen't update anything. Where if I enter a hostname (mysub.hostname.com) it updates it with out any problem. The only problem with this is, I need 3 hosts pointed at the same ip.

Irl!
i'm running Router same as your DI-604
so logon your Router setup option
Tools then Misc you will see DDNS setup option

Server Address: http://www.changeip.com
Host Name:*1 or -1
user Name:your ID
Pass word:your pass

then check on Enalbed option
good luck but i recomended use HomingBeacon Soft because it update your IP faster than Router it self

It just dosen't accept -1 or *1 gives debug info of invalid domain. The HomingBeacon has to check your ip then update it. sence it only checks for an ip change every 5 minutes, you end up with it taking much longer. Where as with the router, it knows your ip and immediatly upon change it updates the ddns record.

What firmware are you useing? (2.10-2.18) Some of this may be firmware dependant. The current firmware is 2.18, witch is what I'm useing. Anything helpful would be appreciated.
